Day Two and Three of Our Fiction Unit: Writer's Workshop ------------------------------------- Mrs. Bunyi's Class Anchor chart photos included at the bottom. |
Mini-Lesson This lesson is longer than a typical lesson (17 minutes) due to the launching of the unit. A key component is talking with writing partners. These talks have been edited to a few seconds for viewing purposes. |
Writing Block/ Conferences Here I meet with Sarah. Grammatically, Sarah doesn't struggle. We spend most of our conferences talking about and developing a character's traits and external/internal features. The idea was spurred by our previous mini-lesson partner talks. With mini-lesson #3, we discuss developing character before developing plot. |
Share Time Katelin took an observation/event that occured at home (writing homework) and turns it into a possible small moment story that can be pieced together as a larger fiction story later on in the unit. |
Anchor Charts (click on the photo to enlarge) |
Chart info: The first top two anchor charts came from Lucy Calkin's work. The bottom left was adopted from her work and developed together. The bottom right chart was created by students. The chart organization comes from Ralph Fletcher. The basis is that fiction can revolve around a character and a series of events that can be put together to create a larger story.
