Master Plan

Our spelling plan this year is three fold.

1) Etymology study of 5 Latin and Greek word stems. These stems are predictable in spelling and will assist us with attacking unknown words.

2) Utilizing developmentally appropriate spelling lists. These lists go beyond memorize, drill, test, and forget it. Students will have a personalized list to work with throughout the year.

3) Study Buddies to address high frequency words. These words do not follow predictable patterns in most cases and are found in context of a student's writing. Words are collected in two ways:

a. Through our weekly reading/writing conferences. Students circle words they believe are misspelled. Select words are studied.

b. Through time spent looking for words misspelled on the high frequency list shown on the right.
